Monday means back to school and work for many

UPDATE 7am: There have been a few accidents this morning in west Ferndale (west of Church Road). The City of Ferndale Public Works crews were out at 6am sanding roads. Temperatures around Ferndale remain one or two degrees below freezing.

UPDATE 6:30am: Just overheard the roads around Ferndale being described as “a sheet of ice.”

Original Story: Many Christmas trees and outdoor lights were taken down over the weekend, a signal the holidays are officially behind us. This morning, Monday, January 4th, many are waking to alarm clocks and, surprise, a covering of snow on the ground and roads.

Temperatures around Ferndale dropped from about freezing at mid-night to a couple degrees below by 5am. Occasional snow flurries have been seen in and around Ferndale since about 9pm yesterday. The end result is just enough snow to cover yards, sidewalks and roads. The chance of additional precipitation this morning is minimal. Radar shows little to no precipitation north of Seattle.

Well-traveled roads are bare while side roads remain covered in snow.

Ferndale Schools resume classes today after a two-week winter break and, as of 5:30am, they are expected to begin on schedule.
