When Flooded Turn Around road signThe National Weather Service has issued an areal flood watch for Whatcom, Skagit and other counties due to expected rains and rising snow level in the north Cascades. Locally, saturated ground and heavy rains can also be expected to contribute to minor surface water flooding in low-lying areas.

According to the Nooksack River level forecast for the Ferndale area as of 7:30am today, the river will crest about after noon on Tuesday at just over 18 feet almost 19 feet. This is below the official flood stage of 19 feet but high enough to cause road closures (e.g. Barret/Paradise Roads and Ferndale Road near Marine Drive) and minor flooding of areas adjacent to the river.

Drivers should be alert for water and debris over roadways and respect road closure signs.
