FERNDALE, Wash. — First responders were dispatched about 12:40pm today, August 14th, due to a report of an single-vehicle injury crash near the intersection of Malloy Avenue and Thornton Street.
Whatcom County Fire District 7 Division Chief Ben Boyko said there were 3 people in the black BMW M3 at the time of the crash. 1 refused aid, another was treated and released at the scene and another had fled the area by the time aid arrived.
According to initial reports by witnesses at the scene, the driver ran from the crash heading north on Malloy Avenue.
The BMW was reported by witnesses to have been northbound on Malloy Avenue at a high rate of speed when it crossed the center line and left the road on the west side. It appeared to have rolled at least once if not more, according to Boyko, before ending up right-side up in the front yard of a residence.
The BMW left an obvious trail of debris as it crashed through garden rockery, tore down a small tree, broke off a branch of a large evergreen and tore up 2 large patches of sod in the yard where it finally ended up. A car parked in a drive appeared have had windows broken and sustained driver’s side damage from the flying rockery.
Ferndale Police were reported to have located the driver about a half-mile from the crash site and he was being transported to PeaceHealth St Joseph Medical Center by ambulance.
