A juvenile reported missing was located when an alert Ferndale Police officer checked on what looked like a car reported stolen earlier.
According to Ferndale Police Lieutenant Matt Huffman, Sergeant Travis Card and Patrol Officer Mike Catrain were finishing up a call around 11:30am on Barrett Road by Main Street when they noticed what looked like a vehicle reported stolen earlier. Comparing the plate to their database revealed it was the stolen vehicle.
People in the area told officers the occupants had been seen going to the nearby McDonalds Restaurant. As the group was being located, one stepped away and walked to the car confirming the group’s association with the vehicle. After all subjects had been identified, it was determined one, a juvenile, had been reported missing by Lummi Law and Order and at least one other had an outstanding warrant.
No one in the group conceded to being the driver of the vehicle but just as police were about to leave the area, the driver was pointed out as he walked away on Main Street. He was immediately detained and later booked into Whatcom County Jail for possession of a stolen vehicle.
