Forest Service roads closed for repairs in Mount Baker Ranger District

WHATCOM COUNTY, Wash. — The US Forest Service has announced multiple road closures within the Mount Baker Ranger District in Whatcom County to make repairs.

Forest Service Roads 12 and 1230: Scheduled to close to vehicle traffic between August 10 and August 24, 2026. The closure on FSR 12 extends from the Rocky Creek Bridge (Milepost 4.6) through to the Pioneer Camp and the Dock Butte/Blue Lake Trailheads.

Glacier Creek Road (FSR 39): Closed to all vehicles at the Glacier Creek bridge (Milepost 3.0) through to the Heliotrope Ridge Trailhead. The closure began on June 30, 2026, for scheduled road repairs. Access for pedestrians, bicycles, and e-bikes is permitted at the discretion of the Forest Service engineer and contractor.

Baker Lake Road (FSR 11): Closed to all vehicle and foot traffic at the Shannon Creek Bridge (approximately Milepost 23.8) through to its terminus at the Baker River Trailhead. The closure takes effect on approximately July 15, 2026. Baker Lake Trail (610) remains accessible via the southern trailhead. According to the US Forest Service, the bridge decking on the Baker River stock and pedestrian bridge at the north end of Baker Lake needs to be replaced to meet stock safety standards. Work on the bridge will be ongoing through August.
