Local photographer and bird watcher, Travis Church, grabbed his camera and shot this picture of a flock of pelicans as they were floating in Lummi Bay east of the Sandy Point peninsula.

According to Church, the picture was taken this afternoon and soon after the pelicans took off and were gone. It was Church’s guess these were American White Pelicans.

According to National Geographic, their typical migration and feeding ranges do not usually take them west of the Cascade Mountains.
