MAPLE FALLS, Wash. — Firefighters and aid units with Whatcom County Fire District 14 were dispatched to the 8400 block of Golden Valley Drive at 7am, Wednesday, April 13th, due to a report of a residential structure fire.

WCFD14 Fire Chief Jerry DeBruin told Whatcom News from the scene that the structure, a mobile home, was fully involved when firefighters arrived.
The 3 adult occupants were asleep when the fire started on the porch and were able to escape with 2 dogs via a back door according to DeBruin. 3 cats died in the fire and the human occupants suffered minor injuries that could be treated at the scene.
DeBruin said the residence is a total loss.
The 3 adults displaced were being assisted by the American Red Cross.
The Whatcom County Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating.
Firefighters were still at the scene as of 9am.
