Several engines and aid units from multiple Whatcom County Fire District 7 (WCFD7) stations were initially dispatched about 10pm tonight to a report of a residential fire in the 5300 block of Northwest Drive, north of W Smith Road.
A fire engine from Station 43 arrived first being their fire station was next door to the residence.
After assessing the fire, a malfunctioning bathroom fan had caught fire and the residents had extinguished it, the other engines and aid units were cleared to return to their stations.
Firefighters were able to get to the attic above the bathroom via a storage access and determined the fire had not spread beyond the fan unit.
No one was injured and damage was limited to the bathroom.
