UPDATED: Firefighters called out to 2-alarm morning fire in Bellingham

BELLINGHAM, Wash. — First responders were dispatched to the intersection of Cornwall Avenue and E North Street due to a report of a structure fire this morning, September 10th, about 4:25am.

Officials with the Bellingham Fire Department (BFD) said first crews to arrive “found heavy fire with fire through the roof” at a church structure.

As of 5:40am, the fire had been knocked down and no injuries were reported according to BFD.

Drivers were advised to avoid the area.

BFD Captain Dave Pethick told Whatcom News several neighbors reported the fire which appeared to have started in a single-story administrative building attached to the sanctuary. The office space and sanctuary space suffered significant fire, smoke and water damage.

A firefighter was transported by ambulance to PeaceHealth St Joseph Medical Center with minor injuries.

The Bellingham Police Department is working with BFD to investigate the cause of the fire.
