Fire units were called to a warehouse Tuesday evening about 8pm to investigate a water-flow alarm.
According to Whatcom County Fire District 7 Division Chief Ben Boyko, fire fighters who first arrived saw smoke coming from the Montigo DelRay building at 6955 Salashan Parkway and upgraded the incident to a commercial structure fire. Crews were able to force entry to the building through a door. Inside they found a computer desk on fire. The sprinkler system was credited for keeping the fire in check.
Crews were able to quickly knock down the fire and turn their attention to ventilating the building.
A Whatcom Fire Marshal investigator was dispatched and no official word has been given on the cause or amount of damage. A representative from Montigo del Ray did not respond to questions about the status of business operations.
