Ferndale Police Station now provides a “Safe Exchange Zone”

Looking for a safe place to meet someone after arranging to buy something online? The Ferndale Police Department (FPD) has set up a location for those and other transactions in their parking lot.

The FPD has marked a couple parking stalls in their main parking lot in front of the Ferndale Police Station as a “Safe Exchange Zone.” The area is under video surveillance and the goal of marking the spots is to provide an area neighbors can interact with sellers and buyers they may have only dealt with online (e.g. on Craigslist) or for child custody exchanges or any other similar exchanges where video surveillance provides additional safety to all parties involved.

The Bellingham Police Department announced in April they had implemented safe exchange locations outside their building.
