Ferndale shoppers contributed $9570.08 in food and cash at the Ferndale Grocery Outlet during the national Grocery Outlet 7th Annual Independence From Hunger® Food Drive.
During the month-long food drive, shoppers are able to donate food or cash. Everything collected at the Ferndale store is contributed to the Ferndale Bank.
Today, Ferndale Grocery Outlet operators Larry and Beth Brown held a ceremony in their store where they presented the Ferndale Food bank board members with a check for $9570.08.
Grocery Outlet launches its annual food drive throughout July, traditionally a time when food agencies experience the greatest need to serve children who are out of school during the summer.
The Browns said this year’s total was far beyond the $2500 raised during last year’s food drive. Larry said, “This is a community effort. We are honored to be able to be part of it.”
