About 1:20pm, North Whatcom units responded to a report of a outside grass fire at the intersection of Birch Bay-Lynden Road and Blaine Road.
Shortly after, additional support from surrounding agencies, including Ferndale, was requested. Winds were reported to be hampering fire fighting efforts. Evacuation of a nearby mobile home park were begun as well.
