In a very visible work effort on Main Street, the fuel pumps outside the 7-Eleven store at 2090 Main Street have been removed.
According to a permit issued by the City of Ferndale, the underground fuel tanks will be opened, cleaned and filled with sand and/or gravel and buried. This process, referred to as tank abandonment, is an option to removing the tanks completely and having to dispose of them elsewhere.
Company officials say 7-Eleven is discontinuing gas service at the Ferndale store but no changes to any of the other 7-Eleven products or services provided at that location is expected and they will continue to be open 24/7.
This was a store-level decision that is unrelated to any broader trend according to company officials.
