UPDATED: Fatal car vs pole crash at Kendall Road (SR547) and S Pass Road this morning

SUMAS, Wash. — First responders were dispatched to the intersection of S Pass Road and Kendall Road about 5:45am today, August 9th, due to a report of an injury car versus pole crash.

Washington State Patrol (WSP) Trooper Rocky Oliphant told Whatcom News the driver of the vehicle was confirmed dead at the scene.

According to a press memo issued by the WSP, a silver 2021 Toyota Camry was northbound on Kendall Road at a high rate of speed at S Pass Road and failed to navigate the turn. The Toyota left the roadway and struck a power pole. The driver of the Toyota, identified by WSP as Gerald R Caron, age 32, was declared deceased at the scene.

It was determined Caron was not wearing his seatbelt at the time of the crash and it was not determined whether alcohol or drugs were involved.

Puget Sound Energy reported a power outage in the area that was reported about 6:20am and impacted 2 of their customers’ addresses.

The road was closed while WSP technicians investigated the scene.
