Emphasis patrol planned around WWU on Wednesday

WHATCOM COUNTY, Wash. — The Washington State Patrol (WSP) announced today, Monday, November 24, 2025, they, along with other agencies, will be conducting an emphasis patrol Wednesday evening on roads around the Western Washington University (WWU) campus.

The Washington State Patrol (WSP) will be conducting a multi-agency emphasis patrol titled “No Tipsy Turkeys” on the evening of Wednesday, November 26, 2025, in Bellingham, WA. This emphasis patrol is in collaboration with the Washington Traffic Safety Commission (WTSC). The area of focus will be around Western Washington University (WWU) as students travel home for the Thanksgiving holiday break.

The emphasis will include patrols from WSP District 7 Target Zero Team (TZT), Bellingham Police Department, and Whatcom County Sheriff’s Office, who will work towards a safe holiday weekend on the roads. Law enforcement participating in the emphasis utilize an all-crimes approach with a focus on collision causing violations including speed, following distance, impaired driving, distracted driving and aggressive driving behaviors.

Motorists are asked to be mindful of making the right decision to get to their destination safely. “We hope that everyone makes the right decision to not drive impaired or distracted during this busy travel day. Our goal is that everyone has a chance to spend time responsibly with their families,” said WSP District 7 TZT Lieutenant Scott Betts.
