Early morning car vs pole crash leaves hundreds without power this morning

WHATCOM COUNTY, Wash. — First responders were dispatched to the intersection of Strand Road and Valley Highway (SR9) this morning, July 3rd, about 1:30am due to a report of car versus pole crash.

Washington State Patrol Trooper Will Glahn said the driver had fled the scene of the crash by the time first responders arrived.

The crash caused a fire on the pole which was near a propane tank according to Glahn. Whatcom County Fire District 16 personnel dealt with that fire and remained on scene for about an hour.

WSP is still wanting to locate the driver. The vehicle was towed from the scene.
