There have been two outside fires recently, one off Grandview Road and another off Paradise Road, and now another this afternoon.
A fire is reported burning in a gravel pit area on Chief Martin Road between Cagey Road and Scott Road this afternoon as this story was being written. The road was closed in both directions. According to radio transmissions, firefighters from multiple districts were coordinating their attack to prevent the fire from spreading into the surrounding woods. The remote location required water tenders to bring water to the firefighters’ hoses.
According to Whatcom County Fire District 7 Assistant Chief Larry Hoffman, “It’s really dry right now and people should be extremely careful with open flames.”
