Primary election is less than a month away

Several candidates are running for over a dozen federal and state political positions in the upcoming state primary election on August 2nd. And some have scheduled a debate to happen in Ferndale.

The election will be conducted entirely by mail and ballots will be mailed to all registered voters at their mailing address on record. The top two candidates in each position based on vote count will continue on to the general election in November.

Ferndale voters will be asked to vote for candidates in the following positions (current person in the position included),

  • U.S. Representative Congressional District 1
    • Suzan DelBene
  • Governor of Washington State
    • Jay Inslee
  • Lieutenant Governor
    • Brad Owen – not running for re-election
  • Secretary of State
    • Kim Wyman
  • State Treasurer
    • Jim McIntire – not running for re-election
  • State Auditor
    • Troy Kelley – not running for re-election
  • Attorney General
    • Bob Ferguson
  • Commissioner of Public Lands
    • Peter Goldmark – not running for re-election
  • Superintendent of Public Instruction
    • Randy Dorn – not running for re-election
  • Insurance Commissioner
    • Mike Kreidler
  • State Representative District 42 Position 1
    • Luanne Van Werven
  • State Representative District 42 Position 2
    • Vincent Buys
  • State Supreme Court Justice Position 5

According to a news release from Doug Karlberg’s campaign, a debate has been scheduled in Ferndale for candidates running for State Representative District 42 Position 1. According to the release,

Two of the four candidates for Position 1. Independent Doug Karlberg and Libertarian candidate Jacob Lamont will debate in the Lincoln-Douglas style on Thursday, July 14th, 7-9 pm at the Ferndale Library. The other two candidates running for the position, Republican Luanne Van Werven and Democrat Sharlaine LaClair, have declined to participate. The debate is being organized by the candidates and moderated by Mark Nelson.
