County Public Works: Slater Road could reopen by Thanksgiving

A lot could happen in about 50 days but Whatcom County Public Works officials are hoping Slater Road will be re-opened to traffic by Thanksgiving.

The section of Slater Road between Elder Road and Lake Terrell Road has been closed since May as crews work to replace a deteriorating 10-foot wide by 7-foot tall steel arch culvert under Slater Road at Jordan Creek with a 140-foot span bridge. At the time of the closure, the estimate to reopen Slater Road ranged from late 2017 to early 2018.

The project web page includes a warning, “As a number of remaining work elements are weather dependent, the opening date is subject to change.”
