The project that has closed Slater Road between Elder Road and Lake Terrell Road for over a month and required detouring traffic is now optimistically estimated to be completed before the end of the year.

Whatcom County Public Works issued an update yesterday explaining how pile driving work (see video below) was expected to be completed early next week. The next major work to be done includes construction of the bridge abutments, followed by delivery of the concrete girders to the site in late July.

The update also noted the bridge construction will be complete and Slater Road reopened to traffic in late 2017. This is more optimistic than the estimate of late 2017 or early 2018 given when the project began May 1st.

The project will replace a failing culvert with an approximately 140-foot span bridge.
