According to city staff, neighbors living and working just south of Thornton Street within the city limits can expect to see their water mains flushed in the upcoming days.

The plan is to resume flushing water mains in the neighborhoods south of Thornton Street and west of Church Road Monday, April 11th (see map above). Once this area has been completed, the process is expected to move to the next area shown in the map. Each colored area is expected to take one to two days to complete the water flush process. Portable street signs are being used to let neighbors know when the process is happening in their neighborhood.

It is important for neighbors to be aware of when this process reaches their neighborhood since sediment removed by the process also can be drawn into your home’s, school’s or business’ water pipes. City staff advise neighbors,

More neighborhoods will be added to the schedule until the entire city water system has been flushed.

This process is done approximately every ten years according to public works supervisor Bo Westford. The last time was when the city moved to well water.

On a side note, the Neptune Beach Water Association is flushing their system’s pipes tomorrow, Monday, April 11th, as well.
