Every year the City of Ferndale accepts applications from organizations and individuals who have ideas for promoting tourism in Ferndale. This year they are accepting these applications until November 17th.
Grant funds are from lodging taxes collected when people stay at local hotels, motels or RV parks in Ferndale.
Per the city website, applications can be submitted for grant money to be used
for the marketing and operations of special events and festivals and to support the operations and capital expenditures of tourism-related facilities owned by nonprofit organizations.
Application recommendations are made by a Lodging Tax Advisory Committee to the City Council, which has final say over the allocation of funding. More than one applicant can receive funding.
Per documents received from city staff, the 2015 Ferndale City budget assigned Lodging Tax money to the following organizations:
- $36,000 – Ferndale Chamber of Commerce
- $1,000 – Ferndale Public Market
- $1,600 – Ferndale Heritage Society
- $2,500- Ferndale Street Festival
- $3,000- Whatcom Old Settlers Association
- $1,200- Ferndale Arts Commission
- $8,000- Pioneer Park tour guides
