Discover Ferndale reported in July the City of Ferndale had been awarded a $230,000 matching grant to be used toward building the proposed Star Park in Pioneer Park.
Today, the city announced park construction will happen next year between May 31st and June 5th.
Star Park “will be built almost entirely by volunteers” according to an email received from city staff. Ferndale Mayor Gary Jensen is quoted in that email,
We are doing the preparations and scheduling the build. This is going to happen.
Volunteers are being asked to sign up now. In addition to helping with the playground construction, volunteers are asked to join one or more of the following committees associated with the project:
- Fundraising
- Volunteer Recruitment
- Seeking tools
- Food
- Public Relations/Advertising
- On-site childcare for children of parents helping build
- Materials

Additional ways to help with the Star Park construction include

- purchasing a playground component. Donors will be recognized on a plaque placed on the component.
- donating. Donors and sponsoring businesses will be recognized on the “Donor Wall”
