Main Street business, Carol’s Cake Designs, is temporarily closed as the owner prepares to take the business in a different direction.

According to owner Carol Bersch, come April she will be offering classes and selling supplies for budding bakers. “I’ll be teaching a lot about sugar flowers, chocolate truffles, lace work, isolmalt sugar sculptures, modeling and French Macaroons from a recipe from Le Cordon Bleu in Paris. Sugar artists from around the country will be brought in as guest instructors from time to time,” Bersch added.

Bersch told Discover Ferndale the last cake she baked was a 5-tier 4-flavor cake prepared for the Ferndale Chamber’s annual banquet in late January. Since then she has had to be out of the state on family business. So, according to Bersch, a lot remains to do to get her shop, at 2016 Main Street, ready for the reopening, which she is currently planning for by April 1st.

In addition to teaching classes, Bersch says she will stock molds, cutters and other needed supplies to make it easier for area bakers to shop local.
