A neighbor said it sounded like an explosion after a car left the road and hit her house.
It was about 7:30pm tonight when a neighbor on the 7000 block of Northwest Drive had her quiet evening at home suddenly jarred by what she described as “an explosion.” What she had heard was a Ford Taurus slamming into her house.
According to a Whatcom County Sheriff’s Office deputy at the scene, the driver had been seen northbound on Northwest Drive doing what a witness estimated as 100mph when passing W Pole Road. The driver was then unable to navigate a turn in the road and appears to have hit the brakes while crossing the yard. Leaving a trail of torn up grass behind, the Taurus went sideways and rolled several times before coming to rest against the wall of the house.

The driver was extricated from the vehicle and assessed by medics to have only minor injuries and he refused aid. He was wearing his seatbelt which the deputy attributed to his lack of significant injuries.
The house suffered broken panels in a relatively small area on the outside but, according to the house’s occupant, the inside wall suffered much worse damage.
The driver was transported to the Whatcom County Jail where it is expected he will be booked for driving under the influence.
The driver was identified by Whatcom County Sheriff’s Office as Raul Humberto Alvarez, age 23.
