Blustery Days and More Flooding Ahead Before the Sun Returns

UPDATED 9AM 11/15
The Nooksack River Level forecast was updated to indicate the Nooksack River cresting at Ferndale at over 19 feet on Wednesday instead of the earlier prediction of 13 feet. This article has been updated to reflect that.

The National Weather Service is saying to expect a few days of more wind, rain and even potential flooding. While we can expect the return of some sunshine Thursday, November 19th, Monday through Wednesday will provide a dose of wind and rain. More heavy rains in the Cascade Mountains will also create the potential for minor flooding in our area as well.

The hardest wind and rain will begin Monday evening with 1 to 2 inches of rain expected and the highest winds expected Tuesday afternoon and evening.

A new flood watch has been issued for Whatcom County beginning late Monday night through Wednesday afternoon. According to the NWS, Another mild and wet system may bring more heavy rain to the Cascades. The heavy rain is forecast to begin on Tuesday.

The Nooksack River level forecast at Ferndale predicts the river will begin rising Tuesday morning and cresting mid-day Wednesday at 13 feet 19.5 feet. Typically roadway or property flooding from the Nooksack River is not expected at 13 feet but due to already saturated soil from recent rains and flooding, drivers and property owners should be alert to the possibility of lowland flooding near streams and creeks. Road closures can be expected when the river level exceeds 17 feet including Marine Drive (between Rural Avenue and Lummi Shore Road), Slater Road, Paradise and Barret Roads and Hovander Road and W Smith Road. Hovander and Vanderyacht Parks can also expect some flooding.
