UPDATED: Blaine area impacted by power outage – schools closed tomorrow

The Blaine School District announced Blaine High School would remain closed Monday, October 3rd.

The Blaine School District announced today,

After school activities and practices are cancelled for today and the Primary School’s Open House will be rescheduled. School will resume on Friday, September 30, at Blaine Primary, Elementary and Middle School as well as Pt. Roberts Primary and HomeConnection. There will be no school on Friday for Blaine High School students.

At 6:40pm this evening North Whatcom Fire & Rescue crews were dispatched to a report of a fire at Blaine High School. About the same time Blaine residents and businesses reported losing power.

Unofficial reports indicate there was an electrical malfunction at the high school causing a panel to explode damaging at least one classroom.

Blaine and Semiahmoo areas are served by the City of Blaine Electrical system as opposed to Puget Sound Energy which serves the surrounding area and the rest of Puget Sound.

Automated calls from the Blaine School District to homes with students in the Blaine School District announced all Blaine schools would be closed tomorrow, Friday Thursday.

According to the district phone message, power issues at the schools are not able to be repaired until tomorrow.
