Big tree over water main presents big challenge for fix

As of 3pm today, Ferndale Public Works crews are dealing with a broken water main under a large tree on Sunshine Drive between Jupiter Place and Thor Place.

The break in the water main is located under the tree which required removing the tree.

Once the entire tree is removed, neighbors on Sunshine Drive between Jupiter Place and Thor Place are expected to be without water for an indeterminate amount of time. The amount of time will be better estimated once the tree trunk has been removed from the work area and the main can be better inspected according to Public Works Foreman James Slaughter.

Update 3:40pm
The trunk has been removed and initial inspections give hope to being able to install a collar piece around the break which will seal the break without needing to turn off water pressure to the neighborhood.

Update 4pm
Slaughter confirmed there will be no need to shut off water to the neighborhood as the collar was able to seal the break. Public Works will remain in the area to backfill the hole.
