BELLINGHAM, Wash. — First responders were dispatched about 11:15pm on Friday, April 26th, due to a report of an assault with a knife in the 1500 block of Alabama Street.
According to emergency services radio transmissions at the time, a person was located with a knife wound to their chest and was transported by aid personnel to PeaceHealth St Joseph Medical Center.
At least 1 witness reported seeing a bloodied male leaving the area.
Law enforcement set up a perimeter around the area, deployed a drone and conducted K-9 tracks in search of the assailant.
A detailed description of the suspect was broadcast to law enforcement and it was reported that probable cause was established to arrest him for attempted murder.
The perimeter was lifted in the early morning hours with no report heard of having detained a suspect
UPDATE: Bellingham Police issued additional details on Saturday, April 27th. They said officers arrived to find a large gathering in the area.
Investigation thus far revealed that a male, unknown to the people at the gathering, attempted to join and was unwelcome. The unknown male was asked to leave. As the unknown male was getting escorted away by the victim, the unknown male attacked and then quickly fled.
Investigation is ongoing. The name of the victim is being withheld until next of kin is apprised of the situation. No further information is currently available for release.
