Washington State Department of Ecology is currently accepting applications from youth ages 14 through 17 for summer Ecology Youth Corps (ECY) jobs. Selected applicants will be able to earn over $1,500 this summer without working nights or weekends and will still have half the summer off.
Summer ECY jobs last 16 days during 1 of 2 sessions; either July 1st to July 25th or July 29th to August 22nd. Hours will be 7am until 3pm, four days per week with two paid breaks and 30 minute lunch time included.
Ecology officials say applicants can expect to spend their time as follows.
- 75% of the time will be spent on litter pickup along state freeways, roads and public lands
- 15% of the time will be spent recycling
- 10% of the time will be spent on training and educational activities
Applicants must be 14 through 17 years old by the first day of employment to be eligible.
More information, forms and applications are available online atwww.ecology.wa.gov/EYC by clicking the “Summer youth crews” link in the “Northwest Region” section. Applications and other necessary forms must be received by April 16, 2019.
Adults (age 18+) can also apply for spring and fall litter crew positions in Whatcom and Skagit Counties. Click the above link and select “Adult litter crews and supervisors.”
Crew supervisors transport the employees to and from work sites and a central gathering location. Park & rides and grocery store parking lots near freeways are commonly selected gathering locations.
If chosen, the applicant and a parent/guardian will need to attend a one-hour evening meeting to fill out and sign paperwork and to learn more about the responsibilities as an EYC employee.
