Air quality reported in the GOOD range

Air monitoring history from NWCAA air monitoring station on Loomis Trail in Custer station (August 5, 2017).

Light wind from the south appears to be providing welcome relief from the smoky air that has been creeping into the Ferndale area and most of western Washington from wildfires in the British Columbia interior the past few days.

Air quality began recovering Thursday afternoon after reaching the ‘Unhealthy for Sensitive Groups’ range Wednesday. By yesterday morning, an air monitoring station on Loomis Trail Road was reporting air quality in the ‘Good’ range. After rising back into the ‘Moderate’ range for a few hours last night, air quality this morning is being reported well into the ‘Good’ range again.

But other Puget Sound locations to the south are not faring as well and the National Weather Service (NWS) advised yesterday they extended an air quality alert for western Washington through noon Monday. “Air quality may vary between moderate and unhealthy, though a few areas might see periods of good air,” NWS advised in their announcement.
