Accident at Intalco sends worker to a Seattle hospital

Fire and aid units responded to report of medical emergency at Alcoa Intalco Works earlier today.

According to Alcoa spokesperson Josh Wilund, a maintenance employee was injured about 10:15am.

Whatcom County Fire District 7 Assistant Chief Larry Hoffman said when they arrived they found a patient with traumatic injuries from what appeared to be “a mechanical failure of a piece of equipment.” Medics transported the patient to PeaceHealth St. Joseph Medical Center.

Wilund told Discover Ferndale, “The employee is receiving treatment at a hospital in Seattle and we are reviewing the cause of the incident.”
