UPDATED: 2 crashes Monday night keep first responders busy

A 4-vehicle crash closed Slater Road between Haxton Way and Red River Road about 5:30pm tonight. According to Whatcom County Fire District 7 Assistant Chief Dean Crosswhite, everyone involved was able to be treated and released at the scene.

Westbound traffic was detoured via Red River Road and eastbound was detoured via Haxton Way.

According to people at the scene of the crash, it appeared to be a chain-reaction series of rear-end collisions.

About an hour later at 6:40pm, crews were dispatched to a 2-vehicle crash at the intersection of Olson and Grandview Roads. Crosswhite said there were two people in each vehicle and 1 was transported to PeaceHealth St Joseph Medical Center for with non-life-threatening injuries.

Crosswhite credited the vehicles’ airbags for keeping injuries minor.

One lane of Grandview Road was blocked by emergency vehicles and WCFD7 crews kept traffic moving.

A full-size Toyota Tundra pickup and a Lexus SUV were involved in the crash. The Toyota ended up on its roof in the ditch.

Washington State Patrol were still investigating the crash at Grandview Road and Olson Road
