180 compete in 25th Districtwide Ferndale Math Olympiad

Ferndale School District reports over 180 students from 4th through 8th grades participated in the annual Math Olympiad event this past Thursday at Eagleridge Elementary School.

According to the District, “Students competed across a broad spectrum of higher level mathematics, ranging from algebra to probability.”

First Place Individuals
Grade 4: Henry Huynh, Central Elementary
Grade 5: Lucas Gonzales, Cascadia Elementary
Grade 6: Emma Brockett, Vista Middle
Grade 7: Andy Obermeier, Horizon Middle
Grade 8: James Pearson, Vista Middle

First Place Teams
Grade 4: Central—Bibi Brown, Jenna, Amelie McKeon, Gabby Lenssen
Grade 5: Central – Lily Burke, Elena Bianco, Willem Nichols, Matthew Schlichting
Grade 6: Vista—Emma Brockett, Ethan Barker, Alexandra Aponte and Aubrey Tegt
Grade 7: Horizon—Andy Obermeier, Indy Pinney, Kai Biagi
Grade 8: Vista—James Pearson, Jasjot Sanghera, Aspen Lindsey, Logan Lundt

The above top-ranking individuals and teams will move on to compete at the Whatcom County Math Olympiad scheduled for February 25 at Blaine Schools campus on Borderite Way.
