BELLINGHAM, Wash. — First responders were dispatched to the area of Yacht Club Road about 5:30pm on Sunday, July 16th, due to a report of a train versus pedestrian collision.
According to emergency radio transmissions at the time, 911 dispatchers had been notified by BNSF dispatchers of the incident involving a southbound freight train.
Whatcom County Sheriff’s Office deputies and South Whatcom Fire Authority (SWFA) personnel responded to the area and began a search for the victim.
SWFA Chief Mitch Nolze told Whatcom News they located the deceased victim’s body in the area of the tracks in the 1000 block of Chuckanut Drive.
Amtrak reported a southbound passenger train heading from Vancouver BC to Seattle departed from the Bellingham station after 10pm about 2 hours and 40 minutes late due to the incident.
