WSP investigating fatality crash on northbound I-5

WSP troopers on scene at a fatality crash on I-5 (January 20, 2025).

The Washington State Patrol (WSP) reports they are actively investigating a fatality collision that occurred about 1pm on January 20, 2025, in northbound lanes of I-5 north of the Stanwood exit (SR532) interchange.

According to the WSP, a silver 2012 Infinity G37 sedan was northbound on I-5 when it attempted to pass traffic using the left shoulder. It lost control and crossed all lanes of traffic and struck the trailer of a white 2020 Kenworth T680 semi-truck.

Witnesses to the collision reported the Infinity was racing a green 2021 Dodge Challenger prior to the collision.

Northbound I-5 lanes through the area were closed until about 4:30pm.

WSP detectives are asking witnesses of the collision or the racing prior to the collision to call Detective Jeff Rhue at (360) 654-1142 or email him at Jeff.Rhue@wsp.wa.gov. WSP detectives also request any in-car dash camera footage from the collision or the racing prior to the collision. Your assistance is appreciated as detectives investigate this tragic collision.
