WSDOT wants public input while designing project to resurface Meridian (SR539) from I-5 to Kellogg Road

WHATCOM COUNTY, Wash. — Plans are in place to resurface all lanes of Meridian Street (SR539) from I-5 north to Kellogg Road during the summer of 2027. While the work is expected to extend the pavement service life by grinding and laying new asphalt. In addition, work will include pavement repair, traffic loop replacement, striping and traffic control.

Pedestrian curb ramps will be evaluated and updated as necessary to meet the Americans with Disabilities Act and current accessibility standards. Additionally, this project is subject to WSDOT’s Complete Streets requirements. We will be working to incorporate as much active transportation facilities as feasible within the project delivery timelines.

WSDOT is seeking public input while the project is in the design phase. A questionnaire has been provided online seeking “input on the needs for all users, including those who walk, bike, use mobility devices, access transit and move freight.” The questionnaire is open until August 7, 2025.
