GLACIER, Wash. — Washington State Department of Transporation (WSDOT) officials say maintenance crews are clearing the final stretch of the Mount Baker Highway (SR542), also known as the road to Artist Point.

The countdown to reopening begins! Crews are close to clearing the final 2.7 miles of SR 542/Mt Baker Hwy, a narrow stretch w/sharp curves & steep slopes. The road to Artist Point remains closed after the Heather Meadows Visitor Center at MP 55. Crews are using big equipment to clear snow, install signs & inspect the wall. Once the highway is open, more than 650 vehicles/day travel to Artist Point to hike, camp & recreate. Washington State Department of Transportation (June 22, 2023)

WSDOT closed the section of road on October 24, 2022. The seasonal closure typically stretches between late October and mid-July and is weather-dependent.
