BELLINGHAM, Wash. — Bellingham Police arrested Boyd Edward Duffey, age 41, for suspicion of a robbery that occurred on July 23rd. At the time, Duffey was out after posting 2 $1,500 surety bonds while awaiting trial in 3 Whatcom County Superior Court cases where he was charged with felony theft, burglary and possessing stolen property.
According to an affidavit of probable cause submitted to the court, an employee at a business in the 1100 block of E Sunset Drive reported a male had approached the business and ordered some items. Upon being provided the items, the man demanded the employee give him all the cash in the cash register. The employee complied and the man fled on foot. Bellingham Police located a man fitting the description and arrested him without incident. A search of his person revealed cash taken as well as some of the products. The employee was able to positively identify the man who was then identified as Duffey.
Duffey was booked into Whatcom County Jail and charged with suspicion of 2 counts of 3rd degree theft and 2nd degree robbery. He was also booked under a bench warrant after failing to appear in court on another case.
Duffey is also facing the following felony charges stemming from 4 incidents dating back to June 2020.
- Retail theft
- Burglary
- Theft
- Possessing stolen property
- Stolen property trafficking
- Malicious mischief
As of July 27th, Duffey remained in custody pending being able to post a $80,000 bond.
