Court documents detail events leading to Maple Falls mans arrest for attempted murder

MAPLE FALLS, Wash. — According to an affidavit of probable cause filed by the Whatcom County Prosecutor’s Office, deputies were dispatched on October 17, 2026, at about 1pm following a 911 call reporting an assault in the 7700 block of Maple Drive in Maple Falls. A resident reported that an argument occurred regarding the shared Wi-Fi on the property. The suspect lived in a residence on the property, while two others lived in a trailer on the property.

During the confrontation, Kyle William Brown, age 42, grabbed a glass vodka bottle and struck another man in the head. A witness reported he repeatedly struck the victim with the bottle before retrieving a machete and issuing verbal threats.

The witness told deputies that Brown was naked during the incident. After the victim retreated, Brown continued striking him. He later stated to investigators that he grabbed the bottle and struck the victim 4 times after becoming frustrated during the argument. When asked about trail cameras on the property, he told investigators the camera recordings might incriminate him.

The victim sustained what were described as life-threatening head injuries and was transported to PeaceHealth St Joseph Medical Center in critical condition.

Brown retreated to the residence. Deputies and negotiators communicated to Brown over a loudspeaker. He refused to exit until law enforcement deployed pepper spray into the home. He was taken into custody about 4pm.

Whatcom County Superior Court records show Brown was booked on charges of attempted 2nd-degree murder.

According to court documents, Brown has a prior misdemeanor conviction but no prior felony convictions.

At a preliminary appearance on October 19, 2026, the court set bail at $250,000 bond or $25,000 cash.

The court issued a pretrial no-contact order prohibiting Brown from contacting the victim and requiring the surrender of all firearms and dangerous weapons. The next court hearing is scheduled for November 18, 2026.
