Whatcom deputy came upon Bellingham motorcyclist down, makes arrest

WHATCOM COUNTY, Wash. — A Bellingham man was arrested for suspicion of felony eluding after a Whatcom County Sheriff’s Office (WCSO) deputy found him and his motorcycle down about a third of a mile from where the deputy reportedly discontinued his pursuit.

According to court documents in Whatcom County Superior Court, about 8:20am on September 17, 2025, the deputy was southbound on Guide Meridian at Axton Road when he reportedly saw a motorcycle pass northbound traffic through an intersection by using the northbound left turn only lane.

The deputy reportedly activated his emergency lights and turned around to pursue the accelerating motorcycle northbound. When the motorcycle continued to accelerate, the deputy activated his siren. After traveling about 300 yards, the deputy reportedly discontinued the pursuit.

Arriving at the next intersection, Laurel Road, the deputy found the motorcycle down in the road along with the driver. A witness told the deputy they had seen the motorcycle attempt to pass traffic “quickly” using the right shoulder. The motorcycle struck a curb sending the motorcycle and its driver “sliding down the roadway.”

The motorcyclist was hospitalized with broken bone injuries. He was reportedly using crutches when he turned himself into the WCSO on September 22, 2025. He was booked and released on his personal recognizance at the Whatcom County Jail.

The driver, identified as Hudson James Olsen, age 22, now faces a felony charge of attempting to elude a police vehicle in Whatcom County Superior Court. He pled not guilty at an arraignment hearing on September 30, 2025.
