WHATCOM COUNTY, Wash. — Detectives with the Whatcom County Sheriff’s Office (WCSO) responded on Monday, October 5, 2026, to a report regarding animal cruelty involving approximately 30 dogs housed in the 200 block of Russet Avenue in unincorporated Whatcom County, according to a WCSO press release.
The property was reportedly utilized to house dogs for Pittie Project PNW, founded and led by Ashley Georgia, 38, of Bellingham, according to WCSO. Detectives initiated the response after receiving photographs depicting dogs with physical trauma and compromised health.
According to the press release, the property owner granted detectives access to the premises. Detectives reported observing dogs confined without food or water in unsanitary conditions. Documented conditions included open wounds on bodies, limbs, and tails, internal parasites visible in excrement, matted fur contaminated with waste, visible skeletal structures from undernourishment, and odor throughout the structures.
WCSO secured a search warrant to seize the animals for veterinary evaluation and medical care. The property owner reported that Georgia held sole responsibility for the custody and maintenance of the animals at the site, according to WCSO.
Prior to the execution of the search warrant, volunteers had removed 13 dogs from the property after observing conditions at the site, according to investigators. Records and information gathered by WCSO indicated Georgia accepted food donations and thousands of dollars in monetary contributions designated for the care of the animals.
The animals removed under the warrant were transferred to the Whatcom Humane Society for medical examination and treatment.
WCSO stated the investigation remains active with criminal charges pending.
