Southbound lanes of I-5 blocked Friday evening

WHATCOM COUNTY, Wash. — The Washington State Patrol reported about 6:30pm on Friday, October 23, 2026, that both southbound lanes of I-5 south of the Slater Road interchange were blocked.

The blocked lanes were the result of a law enforcement incident.

WhatcomCounty Troopers engaged in a pursuit with the suspect of a DV protection order violation that resulted in a PIT maneuver and arrest.

No estimate was available for reopening the lanes. Traffic backups were visible in the northbound lanes and southbound traffic was being diverted off I-5 at the Slater Road interchange.
