Whatcom County Sheriff announces retirement

WHATCOM COUNTY, Wash. — Today, Monday, March 20th, Whatcom County Sheriff Bill Elfo announced he will not be seeking reelection this year. His current term as sheriff will end in January of 2024.

At that time, I will have continuously served in law enforcement for just shy of 50 years. I plan to retire from the profession and do not intend to seek another term as your Sheriff.

The current environment presents many challenges that moving forward, will require extraordinary leadership. My departure, however, will not result in any voids. Our highly developed and capable leadership team is fully prepared to meet all challenges and propel the Sheriff’s Office to new heights in excellence, integrity and teamwork.
