Updated: Verizon cellular customers across the US report challenges making calls

WHATCOM COUNTY, Wash. — Verizon Wireless customers have been reporting problems using Verizon cellular services since about 6am today, Monday, September 30th.

Right now we are experiencing a nationwide outage that is affecting several cities. Our technicians are working on getting the situation fixed and service will start to be restored gradually.

Impacted customers are finding their phone calling abilities limited to “SOS mode” (emergency calling only) and text messaging is also disabled. The ability to receive calls is also disabled. A solution working for some, but not all, is to enable Wi-Fi calling while on a Wi-Fi connection. This bypasses use of cellular services to connect outbound calls.
