Valley Highway crash sends passenger to the hospital and driver to jail

DEMING, Wash. — About 10:30pm Saturday, June 12th, first responders were dispatched to a report of a single vehicle crash on Valley Highway (SR9) south of Strand Road.

According to a press memo from Washington State Patrol (WSP), a silver 2000 Toyota 4Runner had been northbound on SR9 when it drove off the right side of the road, spun and ended up backwards in a ditch.

According to the press memo, drugs and/or alcohol were involved and neither the driver nor the passenger were wearing their seatbelts at the time of the crash.

Personnel from Whatcom County Fire Districts 1 and 16 responded to the crash site and transported the passenger to PeaceHealth St Joseph Medical Center.

The driver, identified as Raven Louis Antiste, age 30, was booked into Whatcom County Jail by WSP charged with suspicion of driving under the influence, vehicular assault and reckless endangerment.
