About 10:50am (Pacific Time) on Thursday, December 5th, a tsunami statement was issued for the Pacific coastal regions of British Columbia, Washington, Oregon and California by the NOAA/National Weather Service US Tsunami Warning System after an earthquake had been detected about 10:45am 215 miles northwest of San Francisco, CA.
In the statement, a tsunami warning was issued for California and Oregon coasts. For other US and Canadian Pacific coasts in North America, the level of tsunami danger was still being evaluated.
Reports are of a magnitude 7.3 earthquake at a depth of 8 miles.
As of 10:50am, the levels of danger for US and Canadian coasts were still being evaluated.
Estimates placed the arrival of any potential tsunami to the Oregon coast between 11:20am to 11:40am.
11:24am update: The tsunami warning remains in effect for California and Oregon coastal areas. For other US and Canadian Pacific coasts in North America, the level of tsunami danger was still being evaluated. The earthquake magnitude has been updated to 7.0.
11:55am update: The tsunami warning for California and Oregon has been canceled. No destructive tsunami has been reported. No tsunami danger exists for the US coast, BC and Alaska.
