FERNDALE, Wash. — Vehicles on the top level of a car hauler struck the underside of the I-5 overpass at Portal Way in Ferndale about 4pm today, December 3rd.

It appeared the vehicles took the brunt of the impact while the overpass still showed damage sustained in a hit on November 21st. After that incident Washington State Patrol closed both northbound lanes through the area,

Ferndale Police had Portal Way closed in both directions at the overpass but the I-5 off- and on-ramps remained open. WSP Trooper Jacob Kennett said there was no expectations for when the road may reopen.

As of 4:20pm, WSP were working with Washington State Department of Transportation engineers to whether the damage to the overpass girders warranted closing any I-5 lanes.
