FERNDALE, Wash. — First responders were dispatched to the northbound lanes of I-5 at the Portal Way interchange due to a report of a dump truck towing an excavator on a trailer having struck the I-5 overpass about 3:45pm today, November 21st.

Washington State Patrol (WSP) have closed both northbound lanes through the area, diverting traffic via the off-ramp at Portal Way and then returning to I-5 via the on-ramp at Portal Way.

Portal Way is closed under the over pass.

The truck and trailer left the scene and, as of 4:40pm, were being sought by Ferndale Police and WSP according to WSP Trooper Rocky Oliphant. As of 6pm, the trucking company had been contacted and is cooperating with law enforcement.

It was announced at 7:30pm that the northbound lanes of I-5 had been reopened but the right shoulder remained closed.
